Puli Breed

The Puli breed has been around for more than a thousand years now and the Hungarian shepherds cannot be imagined without these dogs. This breed originated in the steppes of Asia. It resembles the Tibetan terriers a lot.

As the nations migrated, the Puli breed dogs along with the nomadic Huns arrived in Europe.

The breed was described in 1920 by doctor Emil Raitsits and doctor Csaba Anghi, and the description has remained practically unchanged until our day.

We can be certain that the shepherds of those times were not breeding Pulis for beauty, but rather for their inner skills.

These dogs, all without an exception, are cunning, inexhaustible, understanding, agile, communicative, companionable, love children, and get along well with the family members.

These herd-guarding dog qualities were highly appreciated in them and were paid attention to when breeding. If the offspring did not have the above-mentioned qualities, selection was carried out.

The name “Puli” in ancient Hungarian means “a child”.

The shepherds valued the Puli breed dogs a lot and fed them from the table at home. One Puli was worth three shepherd boys.

Puli – a fast and nimble impounder. During the pound up, this dog is irreplaceable, however it can also block the first lamber until the lamb will not have drunk enough milk. Puli notices when the animal wishes to have a rest.

Another interesting characteristic quality of Puli is that it can get very upset if it is yelled at or punished without a particular reason.

Then it will not come when called for and it might lose appetite.

The most insignificant acknowledgement can do wonders, and it immediately forgets about the wounded feelings.

In any case, Pulis deserve love a lot, they are very keen on people, family, and children.

You can get information on specific standards that the dogs of this breed should correspond to in the publications of “Hungarian Shepherd Dog Club”.
